God is not reasonable
He does not ask us to do reasonable things
It was not reasonable for Him to ask me to be loving to Darin when I felt like he was being an ass
It was completely unreasonable for God to ask Darin to come home and try yet again
when he had tried so many times before
and had failed
but if you remember back
way back…
It was also unreasonable when God asked David to go kill Goliath with just 5 stones
and completely unreasonable when He asked Queen Esther to go talk to the King without an invite
and it was also so unreasonable for him to ask Gideon to get rid of most of his army
But that is exactly what God asked them to do.
Sometimes the things God asks us to do make him look mean, and not nice at all, but if you put your trust in him and obey and do exactly what he is asking you to do, you will find out just how awesome God is.
This is a song I was taught as a little girl in church. I think John Sammis must of known and experienced just how unreasonable God is. John Sammis was alive way before microwaves.
Be careful you don’t have ‘microwaveable faith’!
Trust and Obey
by: John Sammis 1887
When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
But we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet.
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way.
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.
If you have never read these Bible stories that I refer to in this post, here is where they are found in the Bible. They are all in the front part of the Old Testament before Proverbs.
The story of David and Goliath is in 1 Samuel 17
Esther actually has a whole book written about her she was so courageous.
The story of Gideon is in Judges 6-8
Enjoy Reading,
